Tennyson wiggles out of committment: “I think your idea a good one, but I am afraid you must not depend on me”

English poet. The most famous poet of the Victorian age, he was a profound spokesman for the ideas and values of his times. ALS signed “A. Tennyson,” one page, 4.5 x 7, Harringford letterhead, February 12, 1876. Letter to an unidentified gentleman. In full, “I think your idea a good one, but I am afraid you must not depend on me as I cannot find myself to form on time.” Two horizontal folds and a small notation and label to top corners, otherwise fine condition.
