Description

Polish artist who lived and worked in Montparnasse where he was part of the renowned artistic community gathered there at the time. He became close friends with his neighbor, Modigliani, who painted him in 1916 (today at the Musee d'Art Moderns). His style used in painting landscapes is similar to that of Marc Chagall, but, a master at depicting the female body, his surreal nudes and portraits earned him the widest acclaim. ALS in French, signed “M. Kisling,” one page, 8 x 10, June 11, 1949. Translated from the French. In part: “My dear friend, thank you for your letter….the flowers and the sea…I have not profited from my time here am very excited about your portrait…I am not very…Finally, we…I hope that we…when you are in France….” In fine condition, with a horizontal and a vertical fold, bit of edge toning, bit of wear to upper right corner.
