Description

Jack the Ripper suspect tries to relieve his blood shot eyes

In recent times the Duke of Clarence and Avondale has been the center of rumors that he committed, or was responsible for, the Jack the Ripper murders in 1888. However, these theories have been comprehensively dismissed by reputable historians, who note, among other factors, that the Prince was in Scotland at the time of several of the murders. ALS signed “Eddy,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, Yorkshire Club letterhead, July 12, 1889. Letter of thanks for some medication. In part, “Many thanks for sending me the prescription for the eye lotion…I hope the lotion will have the same effect upon my eyes as it has upon yours, and that they will be less bloodshot before long.” In fine condition, with expected folds and mounting remnants to reverse of second page. R&R COA.
