Partial TLS signed “Thos. A. Edison,” one page, 8.5 x 5, no date. This piece is comprised of the last paragraph and signature of an undated ALS. (“Nov. 22, 1922” is written in pencil in another hand on the reverse). In full: “Every day’s mail brings letters expressing a desire that I accept advisory or honorary membership in organizations and associations of various kinds, but as I desire to withdraw as much as possible from affairs of a public or semi-public nature I have found it necessary to ask to be excused. My experimental work and the care of my extensive business interests takes every moment of my time both day and night, and I do not wish to take on any extra burdens.” Assuming that the date on the reverse is accurate, Edison was 75 years old when this letter was written. In fine condition, with an irregularly-clipped top edge, four vertical folds, one through a letter of the signature, and a horizontal fold. Terrific signature and interesting content.
