Description

Ford defends American freedom: “One of the constitutional rights of an America citizen is the right to move from one community to another and from one state to another without undue difficulty. Undoubtedly such a bill as you mentioned would be ruled unconstitutional by our federal courts”

TLS signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Congress of the United States, Office of the Minority Leader, House of Representatives letterhead, December 12, 1968. In part: “…Your letter concerning legislation to prevent a person from moving from one state to another or from a rural area to a city area. I know of no such legislation in the current Congress and I would have grave doubts that one would be introduced in the 91st Congress. One of the constitutional rights of an American citizen is the right to move from one community to another and from one state to another without undue difficulty. Undoubtedly such a bill as you mentioned would be ruled unconstitutional by our federal courts.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds, one through a couple letters of signature, a few minor creases in top border. R&R COA.
