British officer John Williams reports to Lord Townshend after his arrival to the Colonies in 1768, “The disposition of these turbulent people must be better known to your Lordship than I can describe.”

ALS, one page, 7.25 x 9.25, October 8, 1768. Letter to Lord Townshend. In full, “I beg leave to return your Lordship my sincere thanks, for the letter you were kind enough, to write to General Gage in my favour. There was yet no purchase of a majority going on in the American Army. But hope there will one happen shortly. A detachment of the 59th Regiment under my command with the 14th and 29th Regiment and a company of the Royal Artillery arrived here at the 1 instant in ...Squadron. The disposition of these turbulent people must be better known to your Lordship than I can describe. I shall soon take the liberty of sending your Lordship to the care of Mr. Molineus some American seeds.” Lord George Townsend was lord-lieutenant of Ireland from 1767 till 1772.
