Eliot gracefully escapes a portrait sitting: “I should be glad in principle to give you the opportunity of making a drawing of me if you wish to do so, but…I shall be unable to spare the time”

Poet; he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948. TLS, one page, 8 x 10, Faber and Faber Limited letterhead, January 16, 1935. Eliot attempts to reply with a request. In part, “I should be glad in principle to give you the opportunity of making a drawing of me if you wish to do so, but I am afraid that for the immediate future I shall be unable to spare the time.” In fine condition, with small notation along top, expected folds and a mild shade of toning.
