Description

Andrew Jackson presidential endorsement

Handwritten endorsement, as president, signed “A. J.,” on the second integral page of a March 18, 1829 ALS from Charles Stewart to the Secretary of the Navy. Stewart introduces his nephew Francis McCauley, stating that he became a candidate for the position of purser and notes “several of that grade have since been appointed he has not as yet succeeded in his application.” On the reverse of the second integral page Jackson writes “Commodore Stewart recommending W. McCauley for purser in the Navy. A. J.” Matted and framed with a color portrait of Jackson, to an overall size of 20 x 20.5. In fine condition, with first portion of letter light but legible, scattered toning and mild soiling, expected folds and a nice bold endorsement. R&R COA.
