Unsigned legal manuscript, written in Lincoln’s hand, one page, both sides, 7.5 x 12.5, no date. Lincoln writes a brief concerning the Chancery to foreclose mortgage in the case of five gentlemen against Emery C. Ross. Manuscript reads, in part, “This day came the complaints, and it appearing to the satisfaction of this court, that the said defendant has failed to pay to the said plaintiffs the sum of eight hundred and twenty seven dollars and fifty six cents together with interest thereon at the rate of six percent per annum from the fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight, as he was adjudged to do by the interlocutory decree of this court, it is decreed by the court that the equity of redemption of the said defendant in and to the lands in the complaints bill discribed [sic].” Approximately 288 words in Lincoln’s hand. Manuscript is framed to an overall size of 9.5 x 14.25 and affixed by hinges (so both sides are accessible, to a suede matted and framed display with a portrait of Lincoln, to an overall size of 19 x 35.5. In very good condition, with light show through from text on reverse, a couple well done small repairs to paper loss along bottom and left edge (trivially affecting a few letters of text) and some scattered mild toning.
