Jewish statesman and president of Israel. He studied in Germany and Switzerland, then lectured on chemistry at Geneva and Manchester universities. He helped to secure the Balfour Declaration of 1917, and became president of the Zionist Organization and of the Jewish Agency. He played a major role in the establishment of the state of Israel, and was its first president. Another of those signing in Hebrew is Zabotinsky. He was one of the most important Zionist leaders who participated at the Zionist congress.
