Description

Poet, born in Dublin. His best-known work, Irish Melodies, including such memorable poems as The Last Rose of Summer, was set to music and aroused sympathy for the Irish nationalists among London's nobility. ALS, one page, 5 x 6.5, January 1830 (dated by the recipient). Short letter of regret to Lord Mahon. In full, “I regret most sincerely that a previous engagement puts it out of my power to accept your kind invitation for Friday.” In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light toning and expected folds.
