Probably best remembered for the role of Abner Kravitz in the series Bewitched, he was also a very familiar character actor who was often cast as the somewhat dim-witted but lovable buddy of the lead actor. He established himself in the late 1930s at Warner Brothers and was often teamed with James Cagney. He was very versatile, playing everything from the pal to the villain in dramas, comedies and musicals.
