Saint Paul of the Cross

Italian cleric born Paul Francis Daneli, he founded the Order of the Barefooted Clerks of the Holy Cross and the Passionists. He was canonized in 1867. ALS in Italian, signed 'Paolo della Croce,' one page, 5.75 x 8, December 24, 1759. Letter to Giuliano Sparziani. In part, 'The remedy, which is medically proven, and which cures any ailment of whatever nature, whether of the spirit or of the body, is to nourish one self with that heavenly food, which is the most holy will of God...although the stomach of Sire self-love groans as it digests its work, it is necessary to revive it with good life giving spirits...through a sweet dependence on the cross of Christ.'
