Extremely rare ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, lightly-lined Hotel Meyerbeer letterhead, January 9, 1909. A busy Wilbur Wright sends his regrets to French sculptor Louis Carvin concerning a sitting. In full, 'I have received your note and in reply would say that my present stay in Paris is so brief, and my time so fully occupied as to make it quite impossible to come to Clamart for the sittings of your request. With very much regret I beg to remain yours very truly.' Wright had gone to France in 1908 to make exhibition flights and had just won the Michelin trophy on December 21, 1908. Interestingly Carvin produced busts of both Orville and Wilbur in the Spring of 1909, so perhaps Wilbur made his sitting after all. In fine condition, with a bisecting horizontal mailing fold and a bit of scattered light edge soiling. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
