'We have great difficulty in supplying our men with patches, and I could not possibly take away a patch to send to you.'

Brief, curt response to a request for a patch in the midst of WWII. TLS signed 'G.S. Patton Jr.,' one page, 8 x 10.5, Headquarters Seventh Army, APO number 758, c/o Postmaster, N.Y.C. letterhead, October 15, 1943. In full: 'If you want to get a tank patch, go to some tank corps unit in the U.S. Over here we have great difficulty in supplying our men with patches, and I could not possibly take away a patch to send to you.' In fine condition, with scattered creasing affecting one letter of the signature. RRAuction COA.
