DS, signed 'Go. Washington,' one page, 7.5 x 9, January 3, 1787. Settlement of the advertising and printing bill of the Potomack Company with George Richards in the amount of 5.2.0, covering advertisements and handbills contracted from August 3, 1785 to January 4, 1787. Thirteen entries in all, with one entry for October 31, 1785 for an advertisement for Negroes, presumably for labor, but it is not stated whether the company offered to hire or purchase. Nicely signed at the conclusion by Washington, who was one of the incorporators of the company, as well as co-director John Fitzgerald and Colonel George Gilpin. In fine condition, with a light shade of toning and expected light folds, one barely affecting a single letter of signature. COA John Reznikoff/University Archives and RRAuction COA.
