Description

He was a local leader in the patriot movement in the late 1770s. Elected to the State Legislature of Maryland in 1771, he was appointed to the Continental Congress in 1774. He was reelected and served there until 1779 when he was appointed chief justice of the State of Maryland. In 1782 he was elected governor of that state. Endorsement signed 'W. Paca,' one page, 3.5 x 4.5, no date. To Mr. Gladwin. In full, 'File this bill and issue subpoena as granted by his Exlly.' Paca has also written at the top, 'Michael Miller vs Joseph Perry,' with a notation at the bottom in another hand. Mounted to an 8.5 x 11 sheet beneath an engraving of Paca. In very good condition, with moderate overall toning, show through from writing on reverse, some light soiling and a few small spots of paper loss to top right.
