Description

The first delegate from New York that signed the Declaration of Independence. DS, signed 'Wm. Floyd,' one page both sides, 8 x 6.75, May 31, 1781. War dated document written in Floyd's hand, in which he promises to pay to Jonathan Nicoll Havens of Shelter Island 'the sum of three hundred pounds New York currency in specie at the end of one year.' Reverse of document bears a second signature 'William Floyd's obligation.' Reverse also bears several interesting endorsement concerning payments. Document has been professionally inlaid to a slightly larger size. In fine condition, with some foxing, expected folds and clear text. Floyd is one of the rarer Signers available.
