Fur trader and capitalist. Astor remains as one of the quintessential representations of wealth in America. At the time of his death, his fortune was conservatively estimated at 20 million. DS, one page, 7.75 x 12.75, July 31, 1828. Financial document confirming, in part, 'A certain indenture of Mortgage...made and executed by Daniel French of the City of New York to John Jacob Astor and recorded in the office of Register in and for the City and County of new York...is redeemed, paid off, Satisfied and discharged.' Document has been professionally silked. In very good condition, with scattered toning, a bit of paper loss to vertical edges, intact seal and bold signature.
