Brilliant Revolutionary War commander known as 'Light-Horse Harry.' He was the father of another military genius, Robert E. Lee, and he delivered Washington's eulogy, which included the famous line 'First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.' DS, one page, 5.5 x 11.5, May 6, 1793. Document, signed as Governor of Virginia, to Tarleton Woodson. 'Upon the recommendation of the Court of the County of prince Edward...pursuant to the act 'For regulating the Militia of this Commonwealth,' doth appoint you...Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant of the Sixty Third regiment.' Double matted with a nice image of Lee on horseback and a continental currency coin, to an overall size of 23.5 x 17.5.
