Real name J. P. Richardson. Best known for the song 'Chantilly Lace,' The Big Bopper was killed in a plane crash along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens on the morning on February 3, 1959. Unsigned and unpublished handwritten lyrics for Painted Lady on a 3.75 x 7 off-white lined sheet of notebook paper, taken from the Bopper's notebook which was found in his briefcase at the site of his plane crash. The four stanza lyrics begin, 'Beautiful lady, can't never be happy, Can't find a love to last, Because your past is so shady. With your rouge and your lipstick, And with all your paint, You sure try to hide, What you are inside, But you know you can't.' In fine condition, with expected punch holes and a light brush to a couple letters. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from J. P. Richardson, Jr. attesting to the lyrics.
