Description

ALS signed 'Basil,' one page both sides, 7 x 10, November 18, 1952. Letter to an associate concerning the writing of a play. In part, 'Ouida has found a way, both legitimate and effective, to develop Miss Irene Alder into a major role. The Dorovner (dancer) scene at Drury Lane comes out and in its place 'The Dressing Room at Queen's Hall London' where Miss Adler is just finishing a concert. The scene between Adler and Holmes is delightful and most suspensful...Most of the rewriting is done - the rest will be finished this week...I am very happy about it. It was a play with promising aspects - now it is a play, period!' In his postscript he writes, 'Madame Novotna is interested in playing Irene Adler.' In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
