Description

Russian novelist. He was involved in strikes and imprisoned in 1905, he was an exile in Italy until 1914, then engaged in revolutionary propaganda for the new regime. He was the first president of the Soviet Writers' Union, and a supporter of Stalinism. He died in mysterious circumstances, and may have been the victim of an anti-Soviet plot. ALS in Russian, signed “A. Peshkov” (his birth name), one faintly-lined page, 9 x 5, December 29, 1922. Letter to a friend. In full, “After the 1st of January, I will be in Berlin for several days. Call Stein [platt] 61-54. [Raisa] won’t have to worry [her]self with the trip. My address in Berlin is Kurfurstendamm 202-203, at Stotzheim’s.” In fine condition, with two punch holes to left edge and a couple trivial edge dings.
