Interesting letter of response to a curious letter sent by his one time partner, William Althouse. In part, 'When your envelope was handed me and I recognized your familiar handwriting, I was delighted - when I read your letter which was very unusual, I was disappointed. You refer to a former letter from me - may I have a copy of that letter? You evidently had in mind asking me a favor but your letter was not very clear on that point. I had no knowledge of your illness and for sixteen months have been out of touch with all active business...Please, Bill send me the letter or a copy of it that we may unravel this mystery.' Althouse has added a handwritten reply to the lower third of Durant's letter. In part, 'I never kept copy of any letter to you in my life. My work was done for your benefit what I got was my money back after a years wait for which I am grateful...We will let the hear after take care of our shortcomings when we all meet our maker - No! Bill am not nutty.' In very good condition, with paperclip mark to top edge, light toning and creasing and the aforementioned reply to bottom portion and left edge. Accompanied by Althouse's original letter to Durant. Interesting item and perhaps a deeper story.
