Description

The Doors and "J. Morrison" break on through in 1967, secure agency the same month they release 'Light My Fire'

DS, signed “J. Morrison,” one page, 8.5 x 17, April 1, 1967. Agency contract between Agency for the Performing Arts, Inc. (APA), and "Jim Morrison (The Doors)," in which the latter agrees to hire APA as his "sole and exclusive representative, manager, and agent in the entertainment and literary fields…for a period of Fifteen months." Signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Morrison. Another hand has made various notations to the contract. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from REAL. This contract was given to the former owner in the late 1960s by the office manager at APA.

The Doors erupted onto the music scene with the release of their self-titled debut album and hit single 'Break On Through (To the Other Side)' in early January 1967. Their popularity would reach even greater heights when their incendiary second single, 'Light My Fire,' dropped on April 24th; the song, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, was famously performed on The Ed Sullivan Show on September 17, 1967, some five-and-a-half months after Morrison signed this contract. An extremely rare and early agency contract from a true rock and roll legend.
