Handwritten song lyrics penned in black ink by Courtney Love on an off-white 6.5 x 8 sheet, unsigned, which read: “Your empathy inside of me / your empathy a trophy / your empathy despite of me / i want you inside of me / your empathy is atrophied / oh baby yr so big and im so small / oh baby yr so good and im so bad.” Although the lyrics are untitled, much of the phrasing is similar to the Hole song ‘Your Empathy,’ which featured the lyrics ‘Tell your bitch to just shut up,’ a reference to Axl Rose’s remark to Kurt Cobain backstage at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. Included with the lyrics is a color glossy 4.25 x 2.5 Polaroid photo of Love looking into the camera, four sheets of off-white 5.25 x 8.5 personal stationery belonging to “Courtney Love Cobain,” and five sheets of paper identical to the one used by Love. During the early 1990s, the consignor of these lyrics worked as security for Kurt Cobain and then later as a night watchman at his Seattle home at 171 Lake Washington Boulevard East. This lyric sheet was one of several items gifted to him during his time of employment.
