Description

JFK STARTS HIS POLITICAL CAREER CAMPAIGNING FOR THE CONGRESSIONAL SEAT IN BOSTON’S 11th DISTRICT

From 1946 to the day of JFK's assassination, Dave Powers and Lem Billings were probably JFK's two closest friends. Powers was an exceptional pack rat who made notes of all things Kennedy up through the day of the assassination. The following items are originals and unique. Powers introduces a young 29 year old running as an outsider in his first political contest. The pictures of JFK marching in 1946 seen later in this catalog are from this Charleston rally that Dave Powers refers to. Anything from this campaign is extremely rare.

Includes:

Sheet of rare 8.5 x 11 "Kennedy for Congress" stationery, filled out in type with the "Introduction by Dave Powers at the Charlestown Rally," beginning, "Tonight I have the pleasure and the privilege of introducing John F. Kennedy, a Democratic candidate for Congressman from the 11th Congressional District—and a close personal friend of mine."

Vintage oversized index card double-sided 1946 campaign commentary by Dave Powers who was a big part of it. JFK quotes Shakespeare, didn't want to parlay PT-109 and bad back into a seat in Congress, actual voting totals from Congressional campaign—unique, historical and revealing. JFK on the genesis of his political career with a quote he would often use: Happiness is "Full use of your powers along lines of excellence"

5 page recap of 1946 campaign by Dave Powers unique and probably unpublished as no one else had such unfettered closeness to JFK with such first hand knowledge of this campaign.
