Two items signed by the American actors:
Art Carney
ALS, one page, 6.75 x 10, November 14, 1954. Letter to Phil Versage, in full: "In reply to your letter of Oct. 22nd, I wish I could help you fellows out—but my present schedule makes it impossible for me to do so. I hate to say no to these things—but at times I just can't fit them all in. I hope you understand and maybe next time we'll be able to work something out." In fine condition, with two torn staple holes at the top. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Carney's own hand and stamped: "Art Carney, Jackie Gleason Show, C.B.S. T.V. N.Y.C." It was during The Jackie Gleason Show, formerly known as Cavalcade of Stars, that Carney and Gleason developed their characters for The Honeymooners. The success of these early skits resulted in the CBS premiere of The Honeymooners on October 1, 1955, roughly a year after this letter was written.
Dustin Hoffman
DS, one page, 8.5 x 11, April 21, 1969. A release form, in full: "In consideration of the publicity to be given to me and which may arise herefrom, my consent is hereby irrevocably given to you, your assignees and licensee, and to the Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, Inc., and its subscribers and licensees, to use my name, picture, or portrait, in publications for editorial or promotional purposes, excluding, however, commercial advertising." Signed at the conclusion by Hoffman. In fine condition. In his fourth film role, Hoffman received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role as Enrico Salvatore 'Ratso' Rizzo in the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy.
