Description

Unusual manuscript document, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 9.75, May 24, 1865. A true copy of Confederate General James E. Harrison's orders arranging for the demobilization of his brigade, issued from his "Head Quarters, Harrison's Brigade, Camp Near Richmond, Texas." Headed "General Orders No. 13," the document reads, in full: "In obedience to orders from Dist. Head Quarters, Commanding Officers of the Regiments comprising this Brigade, viz. 15th Reg't Texas Vol Infantry, 17th Reg't Tex Dis Cavalry, 20th Reg't Tex Vol Infantry, 31st (Hurdemans) Reg't Tex Dis. Cav. will march their respective commands as near their homes as practicable & discharge them from the service of the Confederate States. II. The transportation of each Regiment will be divided between the companies as equally as possible & whatever transportation may be in the Brigade Commissary, Ordinance or Quarter Masters Department will be distributed amongst the respective Regiments of the Command." Endorsed at the conclusion, "A true copy: J. W. Emery, Maj. Asst. Adj't Gen'l U.S. Vols." In fine condition, with small edge separations and a chip to the top edge of the second page.
