Absolutely stunning vintage glossy 8 x 10 Frank Powolny photo of Marilyn, taken in 1952, with Monroe in a very low cut black top with white collar, strikingly similar to the dress she is wearing on the premiere issue of Playboy, her perfectly made-up head thrown back in a sultry and provocative smile, wonderfully signed in blue ink “Hi, Marilyn Monroe.” Powolny was head photographer at 20th Century Fox for over 40 years. During his tenure as a portrait and set photographer, he shot dozens of famous faces, including Shirley Temple, Betty Grable, Humphrey Bogart and, of course, Marilyn Monroe. A publicity portrait for Monroe's 1953 thriller Niagra, this image was famously appropriated by Andy Warhol for his 1960s silkscreens. Very subtle blot to last letter, a few minor dings, and an extremely faint horizontal bend passing unobtrusively across her chin, all faults mentioned only for strictest accuracy and none materially affecting the appearance, otherwise fine, fresh, clean condition.
