The influential French mystery writer

French author (1808–1889) known for his mysteries that explored hidden motivations and hinted at evil. ALS in French, one page, 5 x 8, ‘Never More’ letterhead, June 27, no year but circa 1880. In part (translated): “I am obliged to absent myself for a few days. Upon my return, I have the pleasure to send for you the day and time when I will receive you. I have not forgotten you, and I am delighted to learn that you have not forgotten me.” In fine condition, with scattered creases. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Barbey d'Aurevilly’s own hand, as well as a carte-de-visite portrait labeled in the lower border in his own hand. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
