Description

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (born 1777) from 1836 until his death in 1864. Before holding that office, Taney served as secretary of the treasury and attorney general. ADS, signed “R. B. Taney, Plaintiff's Attorney,” one page, 7.5 x 3, no date. Partial handwritten legal document, in part: "Sealed with the Seal of the said William which testifies the Debt aforesaid." Signed at the conclusion in ink by Taney. Exquisitely cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 16 x 23. In fine condition.
