Nicknamed 'Light-Horse Harry,' Lee (1756–1818) was a Revolutionary War hero who captured British posts in New York and in the South; he later served as governor of Virginia and as a US congressman, and was the father of Robert E. Lee. ALS signed “H. Lee,” one page, 7.5 x 6.75, no date. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "I rec'd y'r let'r just now—as you consider a meeting prerequisite, I will be at Mt. Vernon on Thursday to dinner where I hope to find you." Exquisitely cloth-matted and framed with an engraved portrait and biographical caption to an overall size of 23.5 x 21. In fine condition, with a few light stains, and paper loss to the lower right corner.
