One-of-a-kind original painting by Ramones artistic director Arturo Vega, entitled 'LOVE 1991,' measuring approximately 50 x 50 on stretched canvas, signed on the reverse by the artist, "A.V.N.Y., Art. V., Dec. 1991." The artwork features the word "LOVE" in a square at the center, bordered by the year "1991" on all sides. The lettering is done in a simple, black-and-white, three-dimensional-style typeface, and the interstitial space is filled with solid blocks of black, red, yellow, and blue. In fine condition.
Perhaps best known for designing the Ramones’ iconic logo, Arturo Vega executed several series of textual paintings in this style during the early 1990s, including: 'Insults,' 'Love, Life, Lust,' and 'Lie, Cheat, Steal.' Evoking the pop art aesthetic of the likes of Robert Rauschenberg and Edward Ruscha, Vega's text-paintings are graphically interesting and have been exhibited at several retrospectives.
