Michel Ney

French soldier and military commander during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars (1769–1815) who was one of the original eighteen marshals of France created by Napoleon. LS in French, signed “Ney,” one page, 8.75 x 13.25, Republique Francaise letterhead, October 16, 1802. Letter to the Minister of War, General Louis-Alexandre Berthier, in part [translated]: “I have the honour of informing you, Citizen Minister, that the Battalion of the 6th half-brigade of light infantry arrived here on the 22nd and the squadron of the 20th cavalry regiment arrived today, 24th inst. I have just received your dispatch dated 19th inst., in which you announce the arrival at Pontarlier of the 2nd Cavalry regiment as well as the arrival at Geneva of Generals Seras and Eppler who will service in the corps whose command has been entrusted to me.” In fine condition, with light foxing along the edges. Accompanied by a circa 1816 ten-page manuscript biography of Ney by an unknown French author. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
