Cooper’s father’s Masonic ring, flown aboard the final Mercury mission

Gordon Cooper’s father’s gold and diamond 32° Masonic ring, carried with Cooper on his Faith 7 Mercury mission on May 15-16, 1963, which orbited the Earth 22 times. Ring bears the double-headed eagle with a diamond in the center, and a Rose Croix and 32 degree symbol on the sides. Accompanied by a handwritten letter of provenance from Gordon Cooper, on a sheet of his 4.5 x 5.5 personal Mickey Mouse stationery. Letter reads, “This 32° Masonic ring belonged to Leroy G. Cooper, Sr. and was flown by Gordon Cooper on 15-16 May 63 on MA-9. Gordon Cooper.” There is a central vertical fold to Cooper’s letter. Four Mercury astronauts, including Cooper, were members of the Masons. RRAuction COA.
