Witnessing all 135 Space Shuttle Launches from the top of the Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A, this is the only privately owned Space Shuttle-era slidewire escape basket; the other 6 are in museums. The escape system consisted of 7 baskets which were installed at the top of Launch Complex 39A, each of which could carry three people. In the event of an emergency at the top of the pad, astronauts and personnel inside the orbiter or on the orbiter access arm could escape into the baskets, which would slide down an angled wire at approximately 55 miles per hour to a landing point 1,200 feet away. In very good to fine condition.
