While attending Blume High, Armstrong took flying lessons on an Aeronca Champion airplane at the grassy Wapakoneta airfield. In the summer following his junior year he earned his student pilot's certificate, and flew solo for the first time that August. A remarkable early autograph from the first man to set foot on the moon.
