#8421 - Official Major League Baseball Collection with Ban Johnson and John Heydler (19) Estimate: $2,000+

The great game revolves around the baseball—the oldest modern sports relic—which has transformed many times since baseball began in the 1850s. From the lemon peel ball to the modern figure eight, the baseball has changed in appearance, but most notably with the printing of the current league president or commissioner stamped on a side panel or opposite the sweet spot. Collecting official Major League baseballs has been a growing trend in the hobby for quite a few years, and if you had ever thought of beginning this type of collection…this lot is for you. This is a personal collection of a long-time hobbyist that contains baseballs from the days of Babe Ruth up through the current administration.

Includes: OAL (6) - Ban Johnson (1901-27 Reach): some light usage, still moderately bold stampings, red and blue stitching. A few light spots. VG-EX to EX overall.

William Harridge (1942 Reach): practically MINT. Very bold stampings, including the side panel stamp of “Ralph Daughton Pres. Piedmont League.” With the sweet spot style of the Harridge ball (two stars and pat. #) plus the side panel stamp, dates this ball to the 1942 season—significant due to being produced during World War II.

Joe Cronin (1970-72): creamy-toned with no use, couple light spots. Clean EX-MT.

Lee MacPhail (1973-83): Mint-in-Box (MIB).

Bobby Brown (1985-94): off white, couple light spots (EX-MT).

Gene Budig (1995-2000): Near Mint with light foxing.

ONL (7) - John Heydler (1928-33 Spalding): moderate usage, some soiling, light stamps but Heydler name legible, blue and red stitched.

Ford Frick (1947-48 Spalding): creamy toned, unused with bold stampings.

Warren Giles (1952-57 Spalding): creamy-white unused ball. NM-MT.

Chub Feeney (1970-86): Mint-in-Box (MIB).

Bart Giamatti (1987-89): NM-MT.

Bill White (1989-93): NM-MT.

Leonard Coleman (1994-2000): NM, light spotting.

All Star Balls (3) - 1980: Bowie Kuhn (NM-MT). 1987: Peter Ueberroth (MINT). 1991: Fay Vincent (MINT).

OML (3) - Bud Selig (2000 Millennium): spotting. Bud Selig (2001-14): MINT. Robert Manfred: (2015 to current).
