#671 - Marilyn Manson ALS and Lithograph Estimate: $5,000+

Rare letter and lithograph by the 'Dope Show' artist

Rare ALS signed "MM," on the reverse of an 8.5 x 11 printout of one of Manson’s artworks, to "Mr. G.” In full: "Here's the teaser. I included an extra if you think Richard L. at Caa should see it. Make it rare and cherished. I want all of Hollywood to be frowning. Also a score reel—copy if needed. A disc of art (not the layout) and a little retard-made book of prints. You can pass it around. You got the book of quotes. I have the other half of the script. The other disc is just for you." Includes a massive 33.5 x 47.5 lithograph print of Manson’s fantastically eerie self-portrait used for his Grammy-nominated ‘Dope Show’ single cover, with hand-embellished areas in the eyes. The imposing print has been mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 45.25 x 55. Also included is the hardbound book of prints mentioned in the letter, featuring impressive examples of Manson's watercolor works. In overall fine condition.

Manson began taking an interest in watercolors in the late 1990s, and had his first solo exhibition, 'The Golden Age of Grotesque,' in 2002. This particular self-portrait, done in 1998 as a part of his Gray Series, was used on the cover for his 'Dope Show' single, which was nominated for a Grammy award in 1999. Manson's artwork has been featured in galleries and special exhibits around the world, and has become increasingly sought-after by contemporary art collectors. Provenance: Gerry Harrington. Oversized.
