#382 - Leonard Wood Estimate: $400+

Medal of Honor-winning military officer and physician (1860-1927) who served as Army Chief of Staff and then Governor-General of Cuba and the Philippines. During the Spanish-American War, he commanded the Rough Riders, with Theodore Roosevelt as his second-in-command. Unusual and highly appealing pairing of military commissions for Major General Leonard Wood, including: a stunning Spanish-English language hand-illuminated document, one page, 16.5 x 13.75, dated February 22, 1901, conferring Leonard Wood as “First Chief of Honor” by the ‘Cuerpo de Bomberos del Comercio,” signed at the conclusion by three representatives; and a partly printed vellum document, one page, 18.5 x 24.5, dated June 19, 1912, issuing Leonard Wood with the “Honorary Degree of Doctor of Military Science” by the Pennsylvania Military College, signed at the conclusion by John Wanamaker as president. In overall very good to fine, folded condition, with some light creasing and soiling.
