#189 - Neville Chamberlain Estimate: $1,000+

British politician (1869-1940) who served as prime minister from 1937 to 1940, and is remembered for his foreign policy of appeasement toward Nazi Germany; by signing the Munich Agreement in 1938, he allowed Hitler to annex Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland in what is now recognized as one of the major early steps toward World War II. Superior vintage matte-finish 7.5 x 9.75 portrait of Chamberlain taken by Bassano in 1936, affixed to its original 11.75 x 15.75 mount, neatly signed in fountain pen, "Neville Chamberlain." Also signed on the mount by the studio in pencil, "Bassano." Framed and in fine condition.
