#177 - Charles Edison Estimate: $200+

Son of inventor Thomas Edison who assisted in the running of his father's companies and later served as Secretary of the Navy and Governor of New Jersey (1890-1969). Four items signed by Edison, including: a TLS on Department of the Navy letterhead, February 28, 1940, authorizing the San Francisco News Junior to publish a message, in part: "I send my warmest greetings to the carrier boys of the San Francisco News. I have always remembered how my father, Thomas A. Edison, spoke of the days when he was a newspaper boy on the train running from Detroit to Port Huron. He was then only fifteen, and I have often thought that this experience aided him very much in later life"; a TLS on personal letterhead, May 28, 1963, sending thanks for a telegram on the occasion of a testimonial dinner in his honor; an Edison Botanic Research Corporation check from 1928; and a New Jersey Executive Department card.
