Description

Handwritten notes from Howard Hughes, unsigned, one page both sides, 8.5 x 14, no date (circa the 1964 TWA-Hughes anti-trust battle period). At the top of the page, an unknown writer informs Hughes that “George will be late tonight. I don’t know exactly how late,” to which Hughes replies, asking how long he will be and then writing several notes to his employees about compensating them for an apparent difficult two-and-a-half-month period. Hughes’ various messages, in full: “How soon will you know?,” “If it gets too late, we can have Harve for a while,” “I am going to declare another dividend for all of you for the pain & anguish for the last 60-75 days,” “Please tell John same details, all as you can tell,” “Bill now—bring Johnny to equal basis,” “when since Levar’s gave ill. Message before in comp. the 7 day per period,” and “In partial compensation for this period.” In fine condition. A reclusive billionaire, Hughes lived in separate quarters (but in the same house) from his wife and was mostly confined to his bedroom, speaking to her and his staff almost entirely in notes and letters.
