Civil War-dated partly-printed DS, signed “W. T. Sherman,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, May 2, 1864. Subsistence document issued to Private John Simpson for "commutation of rations while on detached service as Military Mail Messenger at Headquarters Military Division of the Mississippi…at seventy-five cents per day." Signed below by William T. Sherman, with another hand adding "Major General," and countersigned by R. M. Sawyer, Assistant Adjutant General of forces in Nashville. In fine condition, with several small punch holes, one of which touches Sherman's first initial. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
