Description

Classic 'shock rock' artwork used for two Alice Cooper albums

Terrific original painting by rock artist Airic Brumitt that was used by Alice Cooper for his albums Raise Your Fist and Yell (1987) and Trash (1989). Accomplished in acrylic on stretched 24 x 24 canvas, the painting depicts shock rocker Alice Cooper in a fantastic ‘half-skull pose’ against a red background, imagery that was used on the Raise Your Fist and Yell album insert, and then, more famously, on the front cover to his following album Trash; Cooper is pictured wearing a shirt that features the design. The painting is signed in the lower left in blue paint by Brumitt.

Accompanied by a glossy 8 x 10 Eric Records publicity photo of Cooper wearing the aforementioned shirt with artwork design, which is signed in black felt tip by Cooper, and by a signed letter of provenance from Brumitt: "I Eric (Airic) Brumitt painted this 24 x 24 Alice Cooper ½ Skull in my 27th year in 1987…This painting represents the culmination of my desire to work for Alice Cooper since discovering him in 1971…I would up working for Alice Cooper for 21 years forward after the creation of this image & painting. Many pieces were created and used throughout that time. This is the image people remember more than any other.”

As Cooper’s graphic designer, Brumitt designed stage sets and props, including the Dirty Diamonds ‘Angel of Death’ guillotine, helped fabricate and paint stage clothes for Cooper and his band, and he served as a consultant for photo and video shoots. His artwork hangs in the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City, and he was also displayed in the Tommy Hilfiger ‘Rockstyle’ show at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York from the Fall of 1999 though the Spring of 2000.
