Description

Naval officer (1755-1821) who served in the Continental Navy, the Continental Army, and the United States Navy, during the American Revolutionary War, the Quasi-War with France, and the First Barbary War in North Africa. ALS signed “A. Murray,” one page, 8 x 10, March 8, 1819. Letter to naval surgeon William P. C. Barton, in part: "Extract from the Secretary of the Navy's letter dated Mch. 4th 1819—'You will discontinue the Naval Hospital Establishment on the Philadelphia Station, and all Stores, Surgical instruments, and other property of every kind, appertaining to the same, will be deposited with the Naval Store Keeper, subject to the order of the Surgeon attending Marines.'" Below, Murray writes: "The above extract was this day rec'd from the Navy Dept. the contents of which you will be pleased to comply with." In fine condition.
