Description

Remington praises an unsold Reuterdahl: "That rich Americans don't grab up efforts of that kind only proves that they don't know a d— thing about painting"

ALS, one page, 5 x 7.75, personal letterhead, November 15, 1905. Handwritten letter to famed nautical artist Henry Reuterdahl, praising one of his unsold paintings. In part: "I suppose every fellow likes a good word now and then as we move along through life—I know I do—so I take occasion to say that I think your torpedo boat painting in the Collier Collection is a very fine picture. It sticks in my mind and keeps saying things to me—and if I were as rich in money as I am in appreciation I should relieve you of its ownership. That rich Americans don't grab up efforts of that kind only proves that they don't know a d— thing about painting and only traffic in names through dealers." In fine condition.
