Description

Appealing group lot of three uncommon promotional posters from Apple Computer, Inc. The first poster is a 2014 color 24 x 26 poster for the 30th anniversary of Apple's Macintosh 128K computer, which features a large “3” and Apple logo above gray text: “Happy birthday, Mac.” The second is a circa 1981 color 17 x 33 poster for the Apple Computer Club sent to elementary and secondary schools to encourage children to join computer and technology clubs, which depicts an Apple Computer hot air balloon floating over Lake Donner in California with yellow text, “A Computer Adventure,” and empty signature space below, “Join Our Computer Club.” Reverse of poster bears a description of the “Apple Computer Club Kit,” with instructions on how to obtain a free kit. The third poster is a color 26.5 x 38.5 poster for the 1996 film Mission:Impossible, which shows Tom Cruise suspended above bold white text: “Your Mission: Begins at http://www.mission.apple.com/.” Caption to lower margin reads: “This Message Will Self-Destruct in 10 Seconds.” Includes two smaller identical posters, both of which measure 13 x 19. The posters are rolled and in overall very good to fine condition, with some creases to edges of the Computer Club and larger Mission:Impossible posters; the Computer Club has a tear to upper left edge, and the Mission:Impossible has a tear to top edge. Apple Computer had a $15 million promotion linked to Mission:Impossible that included a game, print ads, a television spot, dealer and in-theater promos, and on-screen placement of Apple personal computers; it was an attempt on Apple's part to improve their image after posting a $740 million loss in its fiscal second quarter. These posters derive from the personal collection of a former employee of Apple Computer, Inc.
