ALS, one page, 4.75 x 7, January 15, 1856. Dickens writes from Paris to Mr. Hogarth. In full: “The post delivery being so late today, I have only time to empower you, in so many words, to convey to Addison and Co. my full permission to use the title ‘Little Dorrit’ for the song you describe. Mary must add it to her repertoire. You astonish me about the boots[?] I suppose they’ll make a mess of it, and I thank heaven that I am out of the way. With love from all, faithfully….” Dickens and his family traveled to Paris in October 1855 and remained there until the following April. Soon after his arrival in the French capital, Dickens began work on Little Dorrit, which was serialized in monthly installments in Dickens’ journal Household Words from December 1855 to June 1857. Housed in an early presentation with six engravings, matted and framed to an overall size of 20 x 21.75. Toning to perimeter and mild scattered soiling, otherwise fine condition.
